This is no diamond in the rough. The Austin Ruby is a classic car that shows its value from the get-go! As durable as a Ruby, this vehicle might be just as precious as one too.
This class of car was nicknamed the “Baby Austin” and for good reason, with the proper care and attention, this vehicles potential could be unleashed, brining joy to those who treasure and love as their own.
Just like the name suggests this is a vehicle to be treasured, and so, as we worked on its restoration, we took pride in our work, caring and catering for it as if it were our baby for as long as we had it with us.
Eventually though, all babies grow up and leave the nest, and once we had gotten it up to spec and ready drive free on the open road, we said goodbye to this spectacular vehicle.
In much the same way as a ruby is the most popular traditional gem, it could be argued that this should be the most popular traditional car, but it didn’t become a ruby overnight, an earlier model (with a build more closely catered to racing) won the 1928 Australian grand prix, but we think the Austin Ruby could be ready to race through any obstacle in its way (Australian or otherwise) once we’re done with it!
If you thought this seemed a special car, you were right. Many Austin 7’s including the Austin Ruby, were rebuilt as “Specials” (a car preferred for sports) after the second world war, including one of the first race cars built by Bruce McLaren!
